I have a set of Konis on The R65LS but even though the preload and the dampening screw at the top are set at the softest settings, I want it softer so the bike sags more with just my 130 lbs sitting on it. I have very little sag now with my weight and I want to sit lower without lowering the bike physically using shorter shocks and pulling the front forks through the triple trees. You see, I like having the centrestand and I am at the limit of strength for getting the bike on the centrestand now. A lower bike is not a good thing and welding and cutting is not my forte! So just a springier spring in the Koni or maybe if someone knows, I'll put on the old OEM shocks back on. Maybe they are softer sprung to start with and with their 35 year age may be saggy enough for me?? Were the Boge's softer outta the gate than the softest setting on Konis??

Sue,
If you can provide the dimensions of the Koni spring and the original spring I could calculate the respective spring rates. That information might at least explain the problem and give you a spring rate to target.
I would need the overall diameter, the number of coils and the spring wire diameter. The accuracy of the wire diameter is critical so it would have to be measured with a digital caliper or something similar.

It's a long time ago, but I *think* the Boge springs will fit the Koni body, so if the Boge springs are more to your liking you can at least use the better shock.
If all else fails ikon.com.au own all the Koni IP and still build/rebuild them and are very helpful with springs.

Sorry, that should have been https://www.ikonsuspension.com/

Thank you Tony and Barry...I am working with a suspension shop that can get a softer spring for the Konis...very interesting that the OEM springs from my R65LS could actually replace the Koni's spring. That takes me to Barry's questions and his spring rate calculations. I just may try to measure them for him or maybe take both shocks to this suspension specialist and see what they say...if the springs could be reused from the OEM's..that much the better and save some $$.
