Title: Scriminger Engine Works...
Post by: Lucky_Lou on April 07, 2018, 05:54:12 AM
Just been pottering about on the Motorworks website looking at service items when I came across this spark plug mod

https://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/Parts.php?T=5&NU=15&M=20&Ct=XA&SbCt=BA_15_20_XA_60

Just wondered if anyone has tried them and if the claims are true....

Honda tried something similar to this in the '70's, their CVCC engines .

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CVCC

I've seen similar spark plug adapters for engines with high oil consumption .

I have yet to see any claims that it improve engine operations .

AND, a lot less costly .

Stephen Gaulin (Toastertan) on the airheads list is supposed to be doing a dyno test with these things fitted but he's taking a long time over it. I'll post the results if they ever materialize.

My opinion - while there might be something in it, the claim of 10 - 20% more power seems as outrageous as the price.

Motorworks photo is very poor and doesn't show the thing properely at all. They are not just sparkplug adapters. The firing end is enclosed to form a pre-combustion chamber with jet outlets.

Has some "detail" (read advertising claims) and are GBP10 cheaper than Motorworks if anyone wants to waste their cash.

I am very confident that fitting what amounts to a shield over the spark plug will not improve running/output and in fact is more likely to make an otherwise fine engine run badly.

If I see a scientifically conducted test that shows *any* improvement I will happily eat my BMWR65.ORG cap.

In the meantime a cheaper "feel-good" exercise is to do what we all did when we were young and impressionable and fit Golden Lodge spark plugs - they at least look like they might accelerate the ignition process, will not harm the engine and cost a small fraction of Mr Scriminger's snake oil.
