Title: Gauge Fitment And Gauge Pods

Hello,

  After the discussion here not long ago about the gauge pods, I've been looking at some gauges and wanted be sure about a couple of things.

  I see a lot of the VDO gauges come with their "screwloc" setup.  With the BMW gauge pods, is the metal bracket version required?  It looks lIke there wouldn't be enough room in the pod for the screwloc version but maybe I'm wrong?  And I guess that the screwloc type is fine for mounting in a fairing?

  The other question is the pods and their assembly.  The ones I have came loose in a box.  Am I correct that it is the gauge that kind of holds it all together - the overhang of the bezel is required on the front end to pull it altogether with the screws pulling the back cover on?

  I don't have any gauges but that is what it looks like to me when I dry fit the pods together.  I am pretty sure that I have all of the pieces.  I was shopping around for gauges and maybe a clock and wanted to  be sure I knew how it all fit together.  If that's the case then I'd have to get that exact size, unless I wanted to do some engineering.

Hello ,
You are correct that the metal bracket is used only for dash mounting.
On the pods, you remove the metal bracket and normally, the plastic Allen screws screw right on the two protruding studs from the clock or voltmeter.
This way all the plastic is hold tight and secure around the clock or voltmeter.

Thanks for the reply, George.  It sounds like you've brought up an option I hadn't thought of - you are saying that with the pods use no bracket at all?    I guess that makes it even simpler for the pods.

When I was talking about the brackets, there are 2 different ones that VDO has - the old metal style, and one called a Screwloc.  The Screwloc has a plastic ring that screws on to the gauge from the back.  I was trying to figure out which style would or would not work in the pods.

It sounds like both will work if no bracket at all is used.

Exact. You can toss them both.
Attention, though, if you look at the bottom plastic pod piece, you'll see that there is an indent in the recess. It is used to center the bottom parts of the pod and keep the correct orientation of the clock face given the support on the bike. (I wonder if I make myself clear).
Assemble them and you'll understand what I mean.
Anyway, it is not rocket science.

Thanks George.  My problem is that I don't have any gauges, so nothing to go by as far as putting it all together.

I was looking to buy them and wanted to be sure I was getting the correct ones that will fit the pods.
