Title: Front footpeg rubbers
Post by: Adrian on December 29, 2017, 10:53:44 PM
Hi again - I'm trying to fit new rubbers to the front footpeg. They are proving to be impossible. I've tried heating one up but not so hot I can't touch it. Then using a rubber mallet I've tried to knock it on. It's not working. Any ideas please.... Thanks

Some form of lubricant is needed. In principle anything that will not harm the rubber and eventually flash off.  I'm sure I've heard of using strange things like hairspray.

Window cleaner works well on rubber parts like this, handgrip rubber as well .

Also rubbing alcohol.

I don't know how fast it would go away, but spray silicone lubricant.

I learned the miracle of that stuff the first time I had to put a bank of carburetors on a Japanese multi.  4 rubber tubes at once...

First I'd try metho (methylated spirits - alcohol to others) ad if that didn't work I's buy some PBR rubber grease used in brake cylinder and master cylinder assembly.

I do remember having a dogged fight with them (at the time I didn't know about metho and i didn't have rubber grease) until I thought to use compressed air - that worked a treat, use a fine "dust gun" inserted under the edge of the rubber and let fly, the air will both expand the rubber and "lubricate" it whilst you ram it home.

One thought, you don't want them to stick or glue on in any way as when they wear a 180 deg turn will bring a fresh face to the top.

Vasoline/white petroleum jelly.  Silicone lubricant as well.  If none at hand then any grease should work.
