Tried unsuccessfully to search the forum for this advice (Kept being told I was overloading the site!!). Noticed a small pool of oil on the left side of the bike in my parking spot after noting a drop in my oil level. Was afraid it was my push rod tube seals, but it was not!
Traced it to leak from the oil pressure sensor. Did not think tightening it would fix the problem. So I need a new one. Being a retired Dental Surgeon ie. "tight, mean, cheap etc" I am looking for a replacement.
Doing my "Due Diligence" I find there are any number of non OEM replacements available, Bosh 0344101040, Wells PS 102 etc.
Any advice as to whether these, or others are worthwhile. What should I avoid, what should I look for? Any and all advice appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

They will all leak eventually - the start up oil pressure can be "impressive" I fitted a Tridon - this has the advantage of being a global organization - I measured the thread (I think without being sure that it is a straight 10*1mm thread and then looked at the spec of the Tridon devices, with particular emphasis on the "burst pressure". It was roughly 1/3rd the cost of the genuine BMW part and was next day delivered from 2,000km away.

About the only info I can get on a non-OEM switch, is a pressure switch for an air cooled Volkswagen, but no specific part number .
The thread size, is M12x1.5 .
Trying to tighten the switch will probably not work, there is an aluminum crush washer under the switch, like all the fill and drain plugs on the bike .

This is from a Internet BMW Riders "substitute parts" list.
Oil Pressure Sending Switch for most BMW "R" bikes.....
Wells Mfg. Corp. PS 102 Oil Pressure Switch is exact replacement for BMW switch and can be purchased from most auto parts stores as Volkswagon Beetle Oil Pressure Switch....

I think the one for the Bug is a pipe-thread which is for early airheads. Our engines port is a straight thread and I think The last one I bought was for an early 80s BMW 320i, IIRC.
This is from the Technical FAQ section...

Many thanks to all who replied to my post. I obtained the PS 102 from my local autozone for US$ 6. When I tried to fit it I found the thread was the wrong size! (See attached photo).
Motobins in the UK had the switch for 5 pounds, and as I was already placing an order, I got it from them. By the way, the Tridon switch in Australia is listed for $15.00 plus $19 for postage to the US!!. Much more than the original BMW part! FWIW.
Thanks again to all.

It sure looks like the threads are different between those two examples...
