Title: Max size for front tire...
Post by: guyom on August 25, 2017, 08:59:34 AM
Hi guys, do you think a 110-80R18 sounds good for front tire. i found a Pirelli MT 60RS good for Montreal road (which are in the middle of on-road and off road tails except downtown... hum and not sure ;-))

so need a good tire... and want a 80. So if you have advises !

thanks Guillaume

I would stick with the stock tire size.  Changing the front tire size dramatically - *dramatically* - changes the handling characteristics.

I can tell you that between a 100/90 and a 90 / 90 (I have a monoshock so slightly different sizes than dual shock R65s) the 90/90 is much sharper handling.

A 110 tire is typically between 110mm to 115mm maximum width which would be a very tight fit and might foul on the mudguard mounting bolts.  You would have to check the width of your proposed tire.

Most owners prefer the stock 3.25 or 90 section tires as they provide the sharpest handling but if you must have an 80 aspect ratio tire then it would have to be wider than stock to maintain the correct overall diameter.

Hi good to know !

I currently has a 90/90R18 on my R65... which sounds pretty good... i will try a 100/80R18, there is a good Battlax BT45 from Bridgestone... You are right perhaps 110 is too big for a front

I have a Heidenau 110/80 18 K60 in the shed, it looks like a similar pattern to the Pirelli, anyhow,  it is 120mm wide (not inflated), too wide with the stock mudguard brace/bracket. I run a heidenau 90/90 K60 up front and i like it a lot, although it is a bit noisy!
