Title: quick question
Post by: tommie005 on August 06, 2017, 04:55:54 AM
one of my choke cables just from carburetor to the twin socket  has broken. is this an issue, or will it be fine to ride?

If there is a sound spring at the carb choke to keep it closed, you can ride safe. Otherwise you should ensure the choke stays closed before riding.

Wouldn't that be "open"

Just make sure the lever on the carb with the broken cable, is in the same position as the other carb, with the choke lever in the closed, or off position .

If it's not in the correct position the engine will probably run unevenly .

That's a good question, Tony.

You should make sure that the carb with the broken cable is in the "normal, running" position.

On a well-tuned airhead, you only need to enrich one side to get it to start.

But the best thing to do, is remove the lever and cables, (they make a blanking cap for the left perch, P/N 32 72 1 234 724), get some welding rod and bend it up like in the picture.  One for each side, or like I said, you only really need one.

Actually the more I think about it, the less I think it was a good question.

I think that we really should talk in terms of a "choke" because our Bings don't actually have one. The  "enrichment circuit" isn't a choke.

It was late at night and i was "with drink" is my excuse.

That same excuse has been the source of most of my "not so good" questions, like "Hey, why don't we just get married?". After the first two times I swore off wives but not the "drink".  ::)
