Quick question which I am hoping will be a very simple yes / no.
I have a new diode board from Emerald Island which is designed to provide a better charging flow.
Does this need to be installed as part of an alternator upgrade also, or can it be installed on it's own?
-
Yes, it can be installed without replacing any other components in the charging system .
Remove the battery cables before removing tbe diode board, there is a red wire that goes from the diode board to the battery, it's got power all the time .
-
I thought that it may be able to be replaced on it's own but also thought it was best to ask.
Thanks Bob.

Did you upgrade to a newer style board similar to this ??

Or you can build your own out of Delco 10SI parts

Nice job and if it was ever to go wrong you'd be able to fix it.
-
@bob_roller yes one of those types. Thanks for that's link I think helps having the wiring diagram.

So I tried to fit this today and it does not seem to tighten up and not move on the mounts. There is a bit of play when installed. Is this supposed to be used with the solid mounting kits?
Any info appreciated
-
The board should not be loose when the fasteners are tightened .
Have the fasteners gotten tight and the board is not being held by them ??
-
Yes that's what seems to be happening. One thing it might be is that I think the ground bolts on the back might be fouling the case somehow. I'll have another look this week, when I get a chance.

Looks like the original bolts are too long to fix the new board up tight as the original had a thicker body.
I just used 5 washers on each of the bolts to make this fit fully in position.
