Title: I Want a Lift Off Saddle
Post by: mrclubike on January 25, 2017, 08:05:54 PM
Any one done this to their  R65
My new rack set up does not allow the seat to open up   enough to get the tank off
I ran across a thread on Adv-rider about it and a link to an article about it for the older Slash bikes but the R65 does not  have the hole they use for a steady post
I know I can figure out something but was hoping some one else has done it and has  some advice (pictures)

I've done that mod on an 81 R100 but not on an R65.

I converted the R100 to lift-off so that I could run a small carrier at the rear. But I got bored with re-welding the carrier mounts so I reverted the seat to flip-up. The only reason I mention this is that bizarrely I found the bits of strap I bent up to make the seat lift off the other day, just as I was contemplating the inability to run the Krauser top box  rack on the R65 and still retain a flip up seat.

I did it to mine.  I think I just very carefully drilled a hole in the bottom of the seat pan to match a spot I put a bolt sticking up.  When my bike tips over in my steep driveway the seat falls off though.

It shouldn't fall off if the latch is still working, at least mine didn't...

I was hoping not  to drill any holes in the frame
