Title: buying parts in USA
Post by: flongr65 on October 23, 2007, 12:26:28 PM
I need to replace my directional, high/low, horn switch. (around$95 at the dealer) Where do many of you purchase your parts at discount? I find the dealer prices rather high. Thanks.

Other than the dealer network, there aren't too many options, there  are a few BMW used parts sites online, I'm not real sure of the sites, I'm sure someone will post their favorites before too long and there is always eBay.  BOB'S BMW has the part for about $75 plus shipping . So there is a difference in prices even among dealers.

Hows about this one $13.00 at the moment on UK ebay. postage to US isn't expensive no import duty cos it's used. It also includes an 'on/off' headlight switch, not standard on US model I don't think.

Flong, where are you located? Motobins comes to mind in the UK, and here in the States it's often cheaper to go to an online parts fiche to get the part #s and then price shop.

The best fiches I've seen are at Max' BMW ( http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/MainDiagrams.asp?mospid=47851 ) and Hammersley BMW ( http://www.webparts.com/cycles/ficheframeset.cfm?tablename=R65_1 ), who also sell for under retail: Max charges full price. Just checked and saw $75.69 @ Hammersley, $85.00 at Max, full retail.

Pricewise, Hammersley's a good deal, and they also ship to Europe & Australia. Probably the cheapest prices can be found at Chicago BMW, http://www.chicagobmwmotorcycles.com , but they are also among the slowest moving human beings left alive: if you want it in less than 3-4 weeks, minimum, don't bother. Their discount price, though, is $68.00

Anyway, my  [smiley=2cents.gif] . For what it's worth, controls/switchgear pop up used regularly on Ebay, usually at very reasonable prices too.
Good luck!

ps: I forgot, check the Internet BMW Rider's site too, often find good deals on used part, bikes and gear there. http://www.ibmwr.org/market/
 ;)

Check it out, Frank, here's a nice looking left switch set on Ebay, currently at 30 bucks.
Don't know if you'll see it in time as it ends soon, but if not, at least it's a good example of used pricing.

You might try Mark at Re-psycle Bmw (google it for website). He probably has more used airhead parts than anyone in the country. Also discounts the new stuff. He is the guy all my friends and I go to......Dew.
