Haven't been here for a while because I've spent every bit of spare time ("spare time" being a bit of a contradiction lately) on a custom restoration that is now, at last, approaching final days. Just need a bit of help. I had another thread that was titled something like "OK I didn't take enough photos". That has not changed,
Would really appreciate it if someone could do me a favour and post a photo of the area below the front of the tank that shows where the wiring harness/electrics and throttle/choke cables exit the front of the frame. I'm playing with a 1982 R65LS.
I've sort of fitted things the way I think they should be, but it's looking like a bit of a dog's breakfast, so would really appreciate some visual evidence of what this should look like.
Much appreciated.

Ugh, you don't want to see mine. Dog's breakfast sounds apt.

Thanks Ed. (Maybe we should swap photos!!??)
Is anyone willing to help? Surely someone's bike is just outside the back door and your phone or camera is handy??
-
i will be taking my tank off tomorrow night - I'll get some happy snaps then for you.

I took these the last time I had the tank off. It was for a different purpose so not sure if they have the solution you need.

Hey don't you and Tony live in the same town? He might let you take some photos?

He's welcome anytime, but it does occur to me that as I simply ran cables where I thought they should go mine is perhaps not such a good example.
Anyway I am going away for the weekend tomorrow morning and will be prepping the R65 tonight, I will take some snaps but I may not post them until Sunday night.

Here are some photos to get him started. Hope they help and remember the caveat - I just shoved cables in where they "looked right".

Tony, thanks heaps. These are a big, big help. I actually did what you have done and stuck the cables & wires where I thought they should go and it doesn't look a lot different. I thought it was a bit of a dog's breakfast, but I don't think it really matters ..... a long as everything works. I really don’t expect anyone to correct my routing of wires and cables.
I note a range of updated electrics. I unplugged all the original parts, labelled them all and following bike dismantling and reassembly, I just plugged all those original bits back in. I hope it will all talk to each other and start again in the next couple of weeks.
We’re not far from each other Tunnelrider, but unfortunately my busy work and busy lifestyle means we have not yet caught up in person, yet.
Tony, I've been flat out today helping my brother move from Babinda to Cairns, so no bike work done, but will be into it again tomorrow. We will have to catch up some time soon. I have some time off in October/November, so will pm you and see if we can catch up. Thanks again for the photos.

No problem and glad my photos were of some assistance.
I've just got back from an overnight ride to Innot Hot Springs. Interesting place and i will go again soon, if for no other reason than to hear the resident band again. Contrary to my expectations they were stunningly good.

Correct clutch cable routing should utilize just one and only one zip tie. The tie should be just above the beginning bend on the right-side frame rail. Tony's photo shows the tie, but IMHO, it should be in the OEM location which is just below the shown crash bar attach clamp. This position helps to align the clutch cable in a straight shot to the end attach point. Afterwards, confirm correct actuating arm position at full clutch pull plus the tiny free play needed at complete release.

Thanks Montmil. I'll remember that. I get the logic.
