Title: Bing manual, bah!
Post by: Joan on October 25, 2007, 03:24:33 PM
Am I the only one who thought the $9.95 Bing manual would have a metric but load of pics and how-to's in it? They made it sound so good but it... lacks.

I guess I was expecting something like Rick Jones' charging system booklet. Humpf!

I think the difference is that the Bing Agency, makes money off of repairing and overhauling Bing carburetors.
I don't think they are going to give you all of the expertise to rebuild them on your own, and lose a lucrative part of their business.
If you were expecting a step by step how take apart, and reassemble again, then I guess you would be disappointed .
Lets face it people are a little hesitant to completly take apart their carbs ( especially the throttle shaft o-rings), because they  think that it is a lot more complicated than it really is.

There is a lot of information in the manual, that you won't find anywhere else.

Weather for the central southern deserts of Arizona :
 1600 MST (-7 hrs GMT)
 Clear, Sunny
 Temp : 91 F (33 C)
 Humidity : 11 %
 Dew Point : 30 F
 Wind : SSE 7 mph ( 11 km/h )
 Baro : 29.78 in Hg. ( 756 mm ) and falling

 Window washing finally done!

It is definitely not much of a 'how-to' sort of thing, but there are some tips in there, and having all the parts
identified and exploded views are very helpful, especially if one is trying to get one of these suckers apart - or more
importantly - back together correctly again.   I'd certainly say it was worth $10 - I would have been upset if I had to
pay $15 or $20.    :)

The Boxer charging system book is at least twice/thrice the price of the Bing book, correct ?

I, too, think it's worth the price.

I do wish it had little color coded diagrams of the various passages that need to be cleaned for the various throttle stages, but I think I figured it out.
