I am getting stuck into the rebuild/restoration of my RS and am considering committing an abomination.
Whilst the front end of the RS doesn't offend, I have *never* been a fan of ATE swinging calipers being all too aware that the first time BMW fitted two of the blasted things to the R75 it was in response to trenchant owner criticism that the single ATE was of such underwhelming performance that the drum brake it replaced was considered superior.
My forks need re-chroming (at the very least) and may need to be replaced.
BUT, I've hit on an alternative - I have been offered the complete front-end from a K100RS - triple-trees, forks, wheel, discs, mudguard and brake calipers for a very good price.
I have asked this question in the airheads facebook page so I have confirmation that this is a simple "bolt-on" conversion. I've seen some discussion pro and con regarding fork rake and axle position - at present I am regarding this as mostly armchair pontification from people who have never done the conversion, I am abotu to push the "go" button on the project.
My query here is does anyone have direct knowledge of the conversion and do you wish to say anything, positive or negative about the proposal?

I have already worked out that unless I want to go to the fun of making my own disc carriers I will have to use the K100 front wheel. in the short term I don't see that being a problem.

One of our members here, sempergumby, put a K75 front end on his '80 R65 .
Have not heard anything negative from him on this alteration .

This is looking better and better.
Oh well, I don't have kids to be concerned that I am spending their inheritance I suppose.....
