Title: Front brake light switch
Post by: MikeFossl on April 24, 2016, 03:07:56 PM
I'm on the road away from my Haynes manual.  Looks like I need a new switch.  How do I remove, fit the switch?  I assume it's threaded but I don't see any lands for a wrench.  Vice grips?

I believe the switch screws into the lever perch. It's a coarse thread. Be gentle when attempting to unscrew the switch.

Maybe pliers to more easily control rather than the crushing pressure of the ViceGrip.

Seems like several people have replaced their front brake light switch recently.  When I did mine I did not manage to keep the old one pristine during the removal process.  As long as the threads are clean for installation of the new one, seems ok to me.

It came off quite easily with a pair of needle nose pliers.  The switch didn't respond to a liberal dose of carb cleaner (all I had) despite leaking plenty of black stuff.  I was able to get to work intermittently but will now have to wait for a new part from the local dealer.

Depending on what stock the dealer has, or is able to draw from you may find that you need to extend the plastic bit that does the switching somewhat. I found that a section of Biro refill worked a treat.

If you struggle to find a switch I can post one as I've got a couple of spares in my box.
