Can anyone tell me what rubber part should be under the tank where the flip latc h locks it down on my 79 r65? It has the bumper on the front but the p.o. had a piece of rubber hose under the rear and it rattles around especially when fuel is low.Is ther a bmw part available? Thanks, Bill

Bill, if it's the part that is on the wire 'bale' that you pull over the frame tube, it's not available as a single piece, you have to buy the wire piece as well for about $17. A piece of fuel hose cut length wise and then secured with a heavy tape should work, it has for me. There also are two curved pieces of rubber that are glued to the tank near the back on the under side, and they have a habit of working loose and moving, well at least in this heat of Phoenix they do !!

Bill you need 1 each of these, #s 2 & 3 on the fiche diagram.

I had to replace one on my bike a few months ago, and got it from my local dealer for appx 16 bucks.
Kinda outrageous for a 2" chunk of rubber in my opinion, but it's a "custom fit" and guaranteed to stop the rattles and wobbles. I attached mine with some silicon adhesive and the frame and "ring" hold everything tightly in place.
And, despite the pic view, they do mount under the rear of the tank!

I am humbled that I can still purchase these parts from the manufacturer.
Yes, you can make up some for nearly free out of something (someone on this forum has done it), but I was so thrilled to be able to actually buy one when I lost one, price was insignificant. Besides, how many will you need to buy?
If you get these, Bill C., there is a left and a right. The fat part goes topside. There is probably a 'sweet' spot fore/aft where they fit best. Since you have not had any on your bike for a while, you may not be able to see where they were originally positioned. Just play with it and then glue them in. I used rubber cement.
