Can anybody advise please?
My Clymer manual doesn't have this level of detail, I have put a link to a Dropbox to view the image.

Not sure how to remove it, it's smooth all around with no obvious place to use a wrench, I'll try a photo but have no way to resize until I get into the office tomorrow!!!!!

This little b... is screwed in place. Given it has not been moved since a very long time ago, it may be stuck.
The thread is normal so unscrew turning anti-clockwise.
You can still get new one at BMW. So do not worry too much if you destroy it.

My front brake switch had gone bad, when I went to replace it, the old one ended up destroyed in the removal process. Think I had ordered the replacement from motobins, prior to removal so everything worked out nicely. And now the brake light works when the front brake is activated, so that's a plus.

You have to remove the yellow switch from outside. It is clipsed onto the switch. So you have to pull straight.
Then, removing the innards is possible. But not so easy....

Depending on the mix-n-match you have for brake levers you may find that the new switch from Motobins has insufficient length to actually be operated by lever movement - meaning your brake light is on permanently.
The ink tube of a biro makes a perfect extension.
(I suspect that the brake perch was replaced by the MPO at some stage and that he used the old 78~79 part. This results in an overly "low" brake lever if you use the later model brake lever. The earlier "dogleg" lever has a different profile for actuating the brake switch and requires an extension. The brake switch for the earlier perch is NLA.

I am on Motobins website and can see the switch. I do appear to have a mix/match assortment of levers, they are different from each other.
It would seem I have some up to 1980 parts and then some later 81 on parts. The Bike was manufactured January 7th 1981, so maybe some older parts were available from the bin or else the PO fitted them?
Anyway, I continue on. I have found an excellent company in the UK who are going to try and replicate the graphics on both sides as mine have faded badly, I post up as soon as I have them finished.

For what it is worth I prefer the earlier brake/clutch levers as they were made by Magura and not an anonymous contractor - it is a well known fact that you can straighten Magura levers more times than any other lever. :-)
When you say "graphics" do you mean the badges (which are available brand new from Bins) or the "R-65" stickers? If the stickers there is a mob in England who have them quite cheaply - if you want I can dredge up the packet mine are still in and post the details.
FWIIW mine are still in their packet because even brand new the R65 stickers were tacky and short-lived I plan to put mine on when/if I decide to sell.

Sorry I meant the graphics surrounding the handlebar switchgear, I am not sure whether to powder coat the 'block' or paint them.
I may try and paint them first to see how they turn out, if not good, I will PC.

Across The Pond, over here in the great Republic of Tejas, a rattle can of Satin Black -neither flat nor gloss- brought my R100S's switch bodies to as-new looking.
Personally, with operating three Airheads for many years, I know what all the switch gear does. I'm also guilty of removing any and all of those annoying "safety" stickers. It's Texas. Call me a rebel.
