Title: Fuel filter

Does anyone have a fuel filter in the line between the tank and the carbs? If so, what are the specs on it? Thanks.

Don't know if this is available in your region, but I've used these for about 25 years .

The filtering area of the filter that I use, isn't stated, but the slightly larger filters state a filtering area of 7.5 sq/in, about 48 sq/cm, that's one of the reasons I chose to use this filter .

I have some sintered metal ones - will have to check out where I got them from.   I'm especially glad I got those on my R100 after discovering it had no screens at all inthe fuel petcocks..

I have sintered metal as well. they came with the bike. I have seen them on small engines and lawn mowers.

I checked and I still have a sintered metal filter on 1 bike - but the others have screen/mesh filters, like these 2 below (I cannot recall which I bought to put on which bike):

I've always used and have been happy with the small, cone-shaped filters. Transparent plastic body and a sintered filter element. Auto parts, lawn equipment, hardware stores... they're everywhere.

I currently have a John Deere filter on mine.  It's pleated paper, comes with stepped 1/4" and 5/16" barbs, and was donated from the parts bin at work.  I've had it get airbound before, so I had to shake/squeeze it to get the fuel flowing.  Otherwise it's been great.

I also use Tecumseh fuel hose clamps since they can be removed with one pair of pliers or a strong set of fingers.  I have the braided BMW fuel hose and it seems like you only get one or two uses out of it without a clamp before it starts leaking at the joints.

My experience with the "proper" BMW braided hose on my R100S. That's why I dumped it.
