I am looking for a good source for a rebuild kit for the ATE caliper on my 80 r65, and see if anyone has a rebuild kit for the master cylinder also. I sent a message to Tom Cutter as I have done business with him before but he must be swamped as I have not heard back from him. Please let me know any suggestions. Thanks - JON

ATE dual piston caliper parts are not as easy to come by as Brembo parts but seals are readily available from motobins. Pistons are the problem at least in the UK but there is a US supplier of replacement pistons. If only I could think where I saw a link posted recently. It'll come to me or perhaps someone else also saw this.

The main cylinder is standard BMW (made by Magura). The size is molded underneath. So you can order any master cylinder kit from any BMW dealer provided you gave them the correct diameter.

Throw the ATE caliper it in the trash like I did and install this instead of spending $40.00 for the kit and $50.00 on piston (and you still have to get the Oring that goes between the 2 halves)

You get Brand new every thing including shoes and better braking from the increased piston diameter (36mm to 38mm)
Now you have standard off the shelf Brembo parts instead of obsolete special OEM crap :D

I have no idea why anyone would fool with rebuilding the ATE.

I am happy to pay postage for any unwanted ATE calipers One day when I have enough for the exercise to be worthwhile I will make new stainless-steel pistons and rebuild them.
BTW if you do decide to rebuild do not stress about that "special" O-ring. The primary effect of brake fluid on a standard O-ring is that it makes them "swell". Given that the O-ring in question is trapped between the halves of the caliper it isn't IMHO going to do anything.
You could, if you are worried, use a Viton O-ring. The original was square section, but a round round will nicely compress "square". Two years ago when I rebuilt my Brembo caliper I just threw a standard O-ring in to see what would happen - no leak so far.....

On a dual disc setup you very well might need to go with a bigger master cylinder if you get the F08's. That would add considerable cost. However, if you are in it for the long haul the readily available and cheaper parts make the Brembo F08's pretty attractive.
FWIW, I cleaned up the pistons on my ATE's and rebuilt both of them for about $70. I reused the inter-half o-rings (which supposedly start life as round bits of rubber) without any trouble. A member here, MikeV, will send you a pair of o-rings for the cost of postage. He bought a big bag of them when he did his calipers. There is an old post in here (might be a sticky) with the o-ring size.
MaxBMW also carries the ATE rebuild kits.
The pistons made by the Jaguar guy are stainless. All of his pistons are.
