Title: Tank bags
Post by: Will on January 06, 2016, 06:07:31 PM
Has anyone fitted a clip on tank bag to an R65 or R65LS bike. Magnetic ones are easily available but I would prefer a more stable attachment.
Thanks in anticipation.

Well, I have a couple of tank bag none of which is a clip on. But they use  straps to attach the support to the bike. One of them is a magnetic one (of which the magnets were removed) and is permanently attached to the tank.
On this support the real tank bag is attached.
The support can be used as a card holder. As this has been bought when Airheads were everywhere, it has an opening for the tank filling....
If yours has none, you can cut one and sew the edges not to mar the paint.  8-)
Bear in mind that the BMW Multi Vario was based on this design and very expensive, then.

I know my RKA magnetic tank bag is very stable.
It has a safety strap but I never have used it

I have tested magnetic tank bags to 160mph........ The tank bag was much more stable than I was. :-[

But I was always nervous when I was parked.......... saw thieves everywhere eyeball'n my stuff, grab and go. It was then that I was wishing there were a few straps tying it down

For more years than I can recall. I've used this same magnetic tank bag on all three Airheads plus the steel-tanked Triumph Triple. Never a problem with wind, odd maneuvering nor sticky fingers.

I checked my bag and located this card in a map pocket. It's kinda fun to watch some folks put their head on a swivel as they stroll by with unknown intentions.

Yes, I have a Texas CHL and, NO, you cannot shoot someone for stealing your tankbag.

Hi Lads,
Don't get me wrong. I removed the magnets on my tank bag, converting it to a strap one because I use it as a backpack  and these magnets are very heavy !
I choose, if I can, to buy a tank bag with a part staying ON the bike and the bag itself attaching to it with a zip ore something like that.
This is why having a hole where the reservoir filling is is a big bonus ...
