Title: MOT handlebar stampings
Post by: montmil on October 20, 2015, 04:00:36 PM
Swapping out a pair of rough black, wide (29 inches) street tracker-looking 22mm handlebars that came with the '78 R100S. The dimensions of the black bars spec out exactly as a Flanders BMW sidecar bar. Replacing them with narrower chrome R90S bars.

The black bars have a stamping on the twist grip end. Guessing it's a British stamp as being approved for replacement bars. The data is posted below. Interested in what all the info translates as. No biggie. Just first time I've seen anything such as this.

      SB
MOT - 029ST
    W 730
  2000  06

I've never seen anything like that either but here goes:

SB - sidecar bars ??

MOT is Ministry of Transport presumably followed by the approval number or maybe the width in inches.

W 730 is the width in mm

2000 06 - could be the date of manufacture I suppose.

That makes sense to me. I had never seen such stampings on any handlebar I've ever, well, handled.
Thanks, Barry.
