Title: It's About Size
Post by: Crossrodes on September 24, 2007, 03:47:18 PM
:)I need now shocks for my 79 R65.  I'm looking at Progressive shocks (412 Series).  What size do I need?  I've measured the shocks on there now and they appear to be 12.5" long.  Is this the correct size?

Or does anyone have any other recommendations for shocks?  Any recommendations as to a retailer?

Sounds about right, they are a bit shorter than the shocks for the larger displacement bikes...

Yep, 12.5 " is correct, so the Progressives will fit.

Since Koni's are NLA, though, probably the favorite replacement shocks for Beemers seems to be Hagons, from Great Britain. There are several users here on the board, and a pair's on the to-do list for my '84 eventually, although my stickers aren't too bad (yet).

The US distributor is http://www.davequinnmotorcycles.com/
and they're supposedly great folks to work with.

Good luck!

You are correct that Dave Quinn is good to work with.  I love working with suppliers that are small and answer their own phone!

KONI actually stopped producing motorcycle shocks around 2000, and IKON has been building to their specs in more recent years.

However, Hagon has Ikon beat on price and, supposedly, quality & function as well...
