Assorted bits & pieces that PO gave me included the cockpit cover. PO stated was removed to install after market windsheild. And because it was ugly.
Have not reinstalled. Thinking to paint & reinstall as do not see many others with this feature.
I really like the Retro look of my R65. The cover I feel will add an updated appearance. But do I want to go that way?
What are some opinions from the group. As on the fence deciding.
Here's the part I am refering to:

i like the look of it, but i am one that likes the look of anything to set it off from the rest of them so maybe i dont count ;D
-
Not bad, all depends on where the personal taste / wallet curves intersect. there are more retro styles still being made with this one at the low end of the wallet curve.

tag,
It is the factory accessory fairing for the standard R65/R45 up to the mono-shock.
I think it is worth something from that POV alone. I have never ridden a bike with one on, and I don't recall ever being next to one in person, either. I say fix it up. You can always eBay it if you want, and name your reserve!
What ever happened to the guy in Ohio that was on the older versions of the board. He did all of his own paintwork - with rattlecans! ... and patience.
-
I like it a lot. The first one I ever saw was on this rascal on ebay last month. I think the angular lines of this little fairing complement the angularity of the tank, side panels and seat cowl. It does look right.
I think I like it better than the LS.
The fairing does provide a little wind deflection over 70, for me, anyway. But then I'm a fairly skinny five foot eight tall. Certainly its a bit better than no fairing at all. However I think it does make the bike a bit less straight line stable at speed, not enough to be worrying but it aint as stable as my last R65 and has the same tyres, newly greased and set up steering head and s arm bearings, etc. So, I bought this R65 and its a gem.
-
I agree witrh you about the "angular" styling fitting the bike. That's why I got an old Vetter Quicksilver for the wife's bike - it's kinda "angular", too...
-
I wondered about making an 80's GPZ nose fairing fit after I trashed the LS nosecone on the Bimbo.

What a timely topic: I just picked this up earlier tonight.

Hey Justin, do you think this'll match DuPont Hot Hues 741901- Blue Mood,

or are you guessing some wintertime repaint work may be in order?
The Givi is supposed to "real close to an 2001 SV 650 blue."
-
i have the big brother to that givi. the one i have is wider. dang steve wish i knew you wanted one, i would have given you the one i had at a great price.
-
Thanks a lot Jon, but I think ::) I got a good deal on this one too.
It's the Givi A750, that retails at $167, and I snagged it on Ebay for 65 bucks + 15 s&h.
Just hope the color's close...

The small LS type fairings look good on an R65, my '81 originally had a full Vetter fairing from the dealer, it took about 2 weeks of riding to realize that I wasn't a 'fairing person'. But almost 27 years later, I can see the use-fullness of a fairing, as long as it easily removable, so you can ride 'naked' when the weather co-operates. Does anybody know how much fairings effect fuel comsumption ?
-
Hey Steve, that looks VERY familiar!!! ;D Wonder where you got that idea from??? ;)
(https://bmwr65.org/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi129.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fp210%2Fcabcgec%2FMotorcycles%2F62048_14.jpg&hash=00e7b4e2488f98605c5e3c8d39f2bfc5b794d935)
So when will you have it in hand to tell if it matches? Looks pretty close to me.
-
Yeah, hey, sorry about that Aida, but i think I'd mentioned before how well the Givi's matched the lines on the R65s, and I deinitely liked the lines of your bike! The clear Mayer on Blue does a great job, but ain't gonna win any style awards, ya know?
Wasn't trying to be be "twins", I promise!! it was just there on Ebay, I had $$ and was restless, etc...
But, supposedly the screen is in the wind, so next week sometime?
Hey, if we really do end up as twins, maybe we should race and see which color's the fastest!!
Willville to the Poor Farmer's Market?
Blue or black? My $$$s on blue!! ;)
ps: I just hate like hell that I can't be there this weekend, dammit.
John and I voted that you & Graham must take lots of pics and publish upon return, ok??
pps: why is there an ocean to the right of your bike?
Could this pic be from the Left Coast?
-
Steve,
I actually take it as a compliment that you like the look enough to copy. And if they do become twins and we race, I'd want to go all the way down 58 to Stuart and MY $$$$$$$s on BLACK!!! ;D
I don't usually take the camera, but I'll try to remember it this trip. I don't have a nifty little digital one, but a big bulky digital one or a small 'old school' film camera. We'll see what I can come up with...
Yes, the picture is from the Left Coast. That's on Hwy 101 on the Oregon Coast from our trip out west back in 2004. Can't tell you exactly where, though. (Had to look it up in my scrapbook to be sure... ::) I'm glad I put together a book on our 2 big trips out west...ahh, the memories!) So, I have a few miles on my little 'fairing'. I really like it alot. Doesn't block a lot of wind, but then I love feeling the rush of the wind in my face - does just right for me! 8-)
-
Wow! I had not seen the Givi's before. They look smoooooth.
PM me about the bigger one, please.
I not sure I will stay with Cafe setup. More want a Tour/Cruiser setup for R100.
-
A friend of mine has one of those BMW accessory fairings on his 1981 R65 along with the dual disc setup. It looks real nice and is the only one I have ever seen.....Dew.
-
i have the big brother to that givi. the one i have is wider. dang steve wish i knew you wanted one, i would have given you the one i had at a great price.
Hey Jon, do you still have the Givi 750's big bother?
That's the A760, isn't it, like in this pic?
Do you have measurements on the screen?
-
Hi Tagordon. I like the looks of of the BMW cockpit cover you have. I vote put it on!!
But hey that Givi looks nice too. I wounder how it would look on the front of the Thunderbolt in Jaguar Racing Green?
Hmmm.
