My bike is a '79 R65 (Originally bought in Europe). I replaced the oil pressure switch before, and after a short period it is leaking again. I seem to recall someone said there is another switch to buy that does not leak. I looked for it on the board and cannot find it. Moto Bins only had the original switch for the R65. If the person that originally said what the replacement switch is can you please tell me again. And where did you buy it?

Are you having a small leak from the oil pressure sender that is located on the side of the crankcase or the neutral switch that is in the bottom of the gear box?
The oil pressure sender has a pipe thread. Exactly where is the OP switch leaking? At the threads or the sender body? There are some VW OP senders that will fit but I believe their pressure settings are quite different than the ones needed for the BMW Airheads.
If it's the neutral switch, the OEM switch can be replaced with a much more reliable and leak-free switch available from MotoBins and a few USA suppliers.

Just like that often cussed Neutral Switch that is so hard to access, the OP switch has crimped aluminum around the plastic body. Several folks, while replacing the neutral bugger, use either epoxy or JB Weld to seal the joint between the two materials.
I don't believe that you could clean your existing OP switch well enough to create a reliable seal. I would suggest you purchase a new sender and treat it to the JB, or similar, fix. If the gray 'glue' bothers your aesthetics, a bit of black paint will make it look "factory".
BTW, BMW Mottorad doesn't make this switch or several other items on our bikes. Contracted out; often to the low bidder. I like Motobins as their delivery to Tejas is as fast, or faster, than some vendors north of the Red River.

Where is the switch leaking from, through the switch, or around the metal crush washer area ?
There is a thread in the R65 Technical / FAQ section about non-OEM replacements parts, an oil pressure switch listed for a Volkswagen pressure switch in in there .

There are some VW OP senders that will fit but I believe their pressure settings are quite different than the ones needed for the BMW Airheads.
I fitted one intended for an Alfa sometime in the mid 80s, i recall that its selection was based on it most nearly matching OEM.

If I can get the Flux Capacitor repaired on the DeLoren, we can zip back to the mid'80's and find an Alpfa dealership. Maybe score one of those Italian OP switches for ol' Mike..

Jokes aside, where do you think the part sold by moto bins (and universally lauded for being so much more durable than OEM) comes from?

Tony, If you're referencing the Motobins repop Neutral Switch that's in my R65, it is from the land of Sophia Loren. Va Va Voom!
