Title: Anybody ever seen this video?

It's a little long and the lad isn't the best at presenting on camera, but I was able to follow along and the mystery of Airhead charging has become a little clearer...

If any of you have the time to watch it and review, it would be really useful to those of us that lack the knowledge of bike electrics. Is the information accurate and correct?

Thanks

Chris

It commits the capital sin of most you tube videos which is taking forever to get to the point and begin talking about the topic at hand and it would still have been too long even without that.

The initial test results as far as charging voltage was bound to be poor after such an abysmal starting performance  I'd be worrying about why the bike doesn't start on the button before delving into the charging system (lets not get into his lack of mechanical sympathy with excessively revving the engine). The basic carb/ignition faults that caused the poor starting are giving the charging system too much work to do to recover the battery state of charge after every extended starting attempt.  The charging voltage results are never going to be valid until the battery is fully charged which it can't have been after such a long time cranking.

The complexity of oscilloscope and current measurement are just adding unnecessary confusion when a digital voltmeter which many of us understand and possess would have done just as well at least for the first test run and to diagnose a faulty regulator.  It would also have been much easier for viewers to read. The oscilloscope only provides something useful later when it illustrates the switching nature of the voltage regulator on the field current. That and the explanation of how the the 3 phase alternator and diode board work together is OK and he obviously understands the principles.

Got to admit I couldn't bring myself to watch part 2. I suppose this is not a very positive review but I got to understand electrical principles and how the charging system works without every watching a video so I'm not a great fan of them.

Thanks for watching Barry and reviewing.

The principles of charging I was able to follow and it was interesting to see the bypass lead and set-up.

I haven't watched epi 2 purely for lack of time, I will at some point.

Thanks again
