Well I have the '82 R65LS stripped down to the bare frame for powder coating and commence custom restoration, but the one last item to be removed is the steering lock and the little slide tab that fits over it. And I have no clue as to whether it can even be removed or how to go about it.
I tried a couple of searches across the various areas of the forum but no luck, so would be forever grateful if someone could tell me how.
Many thanks

The little swivel tab that fits over the lock has to be pulled out. The pin that it swivels on is just pressed into the frame and with some gentle prying should come out. Try not to bend the tab.
After that, you put the key in and turn to the left (like you would when using the lock) and it will be able to slide out of the frame.

The lock cover pivots on a pin which is simply a press fit so that should pry out with care.
With the cover off insert the key and turn it to the left, wiggle the forks a bit and the lock should then slide out.
Edit: Luca beat me to it by a few seconds. We seem to be saying the same thing so it must be right.

Thanks fellas. Day off tomorrow so I might get time to give it a go.
Much appreciated.
