Title: Ignition quit work
Post by: donbmw on March 15, 2015, 09:08:46 PM
This is not a call for help. About a month ago was out on my 82 R65. While setting at a stop light it just died. Switch to reserve but still would not start. Hauled it home. Found the coil cracked. Used another coil but still no fire. I order the Alpha electictronic system that replaces the stock system from Rick at Motord Eletrik along with a new Dyna coil. Installation was a breeze. Finally a good weather to get out for awhile. The only caution for all R bikes since they are getting old. If you have to remove the bean can you may find the plug fall to pieces when trying to removed it.

At least it wasn't as bad as my ignition quit working about a year ago, the cam chain broke !!!

I've heard other members comment about the connector falling apart with age and heat before .

Why not just put crimp on connectors on the wires and then put a piece of heat shrink over the connection and then put a piece of larger heat shrink over all three splices .

That would have work if it was just the connections.
