Title: GENERATOR LIGHT AUXILLARY CIRCUIT

Does someone know what this is for
Does it fix some sort of problem
Is this something that needs to be done
Stumbled across it and was wondering about it

The link you posted isn't bringing up the correct page for me.  

At a guess it's going to be about a bypass resistor which will ensure the rotor continues to be energised in the event of a gen lamp failure. These bypass resistors are also used when the gen lamp is substituted with an LED which on it's own will not flow sufficient current.

The basic issue is that without a small initial current to excite the rotor there is no alternator output. The path through the gen lamp normally provides that current.

I did a search an it is just a resistor with wires attached.

Check the R65 Technical FAQ/Procedures for the heading
"GEN Light Auxiliary Circuit" by our own Montmil. He posted a nice write up (with pics) on making one of these. I used it and installed it on my bike.

Just to make this clear, if the GEN light bulb fails, your charging system will not work .
So, it is a good idea to keep an eye on the GEN light on start up, make sure it comes on when you turn the key to the ON position, before you start the engine, if it doesn't you're running on  the battery only .

I'm a "belt and braces" guy with the GEN lamp. Even though the resistor addition by itself will serve to get the rotor all excited, the GEN lamp can also be a helpful diagnostic tool if you understand what the different levels of the bulb's brightness may be telling you.

I have a few of the resistor circuit hookups on hand.

I will put one in the next time I have the tank off.
I am planing on adding more fuses soon anyway.
