After I get the handle bars sorted, I'd like to add a windshield and possibly hand guards to make things more comfortable for the colder and longer rides in Canada.
I've been looking at the National Cycle line right up to the Plexistar 2 but I'm leaning towards something smaller that I could look over rather then through.
What are people adding to their rides? Any insights would be appreciated.
THX!

Hi there I have a Plexi Star 2 on my R65 - I also have the R80 RT bars as well to help with my posture. With my screen I can just see over the top at the angle at which I have it mounted. This maybe because I have upright bars and not the standard ones. This is my second screen - I knocked the bike over and smashed the last one - I find it give a good protection for the body and hands - here in South Australia the winters aren't that harsh but it still gets down to only 1 or two degrees sometimes and that's pretty chilly when riding. I hope this helps - ;)

What model is the Givi?
Their Canadian website doesn't have a model specific version for the R65 but quite a plethora of "universal" windscreens.
Adrian, do you have a photo of your bike with the windscreen installed?
Thanks!

I think it is this one

I've been looking at windshield possibilities for the last couple months... Digging into old posts on the forum here, and looking online... I finally decided on the Parabellum, mostly because it is custom designed for the R65, and because I could choose different heights. I literally received it and mounted it this weekend, and did about a 250 miler with a buddy today, and I am totally pleased with it. I'm about 6', and I opted for the 20" height. Glad I didn't get a shorter one.
Installing: went really easy, very beefy mountings, 4-point, attaches to the headlight bolts, and uses 2 heavy aluminum pieces to mount to the top fork brace. New bolts are included, a nice touch! I did wind up doing a bit of a custom re-bend on those aluminum pieces, just thought it needed to line up a bit better, no big deal. Rake angle is adjustable, I put it where it felt right. (about midway in the adjustment range)
Riding: I'm looking well over the top of the screen, and the air is deflected to just over the top of my faceshield on the helmet, that's perfect, as I still get a good flow of cooling air if I need it. A little burbly, but does not buffet. The shield really takes the pressure off my chest, but enough air comes around the sides to be pleasant on warm days (one ride, in mid 70s, we'll see how it does in cooler weather)
It literally transformed my riding experience! Even pushing into a 20-30 mph headwind at 70, no strain at all! The bike seems to like it, too.... fuel mileage came up from low 40s to almost 50 mpg (one sample, but WTH) It feels like a quality product, only time will tell on that one. It's not a cheap option, around $275 (ouch!) delivered, but I feel like the $$ was well spent.
I'll grab some pix tomorrow and post them, but it really does not mess with the looks of the bike, I think... To be continued...

looks good I would like to see a close up of the mounting brackets.
The GIVI I have is a pain to remove and install

This is the closest option from National Cycle which I can get at a reasonable price here in Canada. Any thoughts?

National Cycle produces a very nice product. I see more of these screens on Airheads than and other brand. The mount system seems well designed.

Mike,
I have the same GIVI windscreen model on my bike that is mentioned earlier in this thread. I have had it for some years now and I am very pleased with the look and the effect it has of keeping the air pressure off my chest. I also added some hand guards that are marketed for the R80 GS. They fit the R65 perfectly, and though not as good as a full fairing, they do keep the bite of chill wind off my knuckles.

I think mine is taller than this one

Hope that helps! There's no way you could consider this shield easy to detach, tho... it's really bolted on there.

It looks easier than the GIVI
I have to fight spacer bushing and the length of the rods to take it on and off

Just finished installing a National Cycle Deflector.

I have a Slipstreamer Turbo S-05 Windshield on my bike which keeps most of the wind off my chest and hands. It unfortunately directed the wind to the top of my helmet so I added a Laminar Lip which helps but I still get a lot of wind noise. I had hoped to be able to give up ear plugs on long trips but so far no luck. The other thing to be aware of is that with a large windshield cross winds really affect you.

National Cycle for me...sometimes it seems I am pushing a giant potato chip around! Yet it does keep me warm & dry.
I take it off when it's warmer....
I used it at 2 degrees the other day & it did fine.
(I use electric gear in the winter).
