My bike is a '79 European version. I have had the air cleaner housing off an now I'm attempting to put it together. The housing has two sides and is held together by about a 6" screw which passes through the air filter. The problem I am having is finding the screw hole on the other side when I am inserting the screw. Has anyone got a technique to make this easier?

I installed the aluminum "clamshell" air cleaner housing because I like the look. It is a pain to get the screw back in place. The easiest way I have found is to disconnect the black intake elbow from the side the screw enters from and look up inside to guide it to the other side. Once in place you can reattach the intake elbow.

With my R100S, I pull off the airbox hose, as mentioned above, but it's quite easy to put a couple fingers inside to locate the threaded bung and guide that l-o-n-g screw into place.

Marc, Monte thanks for the info. It worked!

It requires periodic practice to get the 'feel' for how to hold that #$%^ screw and detect when the tip of it has found the hole on the other side.
Once you do that chore enough times, you'll get it - but be sure to do it at least 1-2X year afterward or you completely forget and have to start over using the "finger" and intake elbow removal method..
