Title: Loose exhaust coupling
Post by: jamestnewsonr65 on August 17, 2014, 01:17:02 PM
I bought some mufflers from here http://modernmotorcycle.co/collections/exhaust/products/muffler-reverse-cone-megaphone-shorty-black and they came with some reducer collars which I thought, great just put them on, clamp the, up and good to go. Wrong!

Even with the reducers which are supposed to take you down to 35mm they are a little loose and don't sit properly. Does anyone have and ideas on how to make them tighter fitting or indeed where to get a smaller fitting collar?

Thanks in advance.
James.

Something  like below?

I bought very similar clamps from a seller in Italy, p[aid a little more than these too.

It was more the internal reducers.
They just don't seem to squeeze together enough to hold the muffler tight.

Cut some strips from brass shim stock. Roll 'em up inside those reducers. Should get you snugged up.

I thought that might've an option or cutting the reducers a bit so they close up a little tighter.

Shims are probably easier!

Monte, brass shim stock?  This would be a great opportunity to re-use some spent beer cans!  [smiley=beer.gif]

Try greasing between the reducing rings so that they slide over each other more easily. I had one of these a few years ago and that did the trick for me.

Done that!
Plus, a 12-ouncer makes a great install tool for a final drive oil seal. Beer... It's not just what's for breakfast.
