Title: Air Box Question
Post by: marcmax on June 01, 2014, 06:42:01 AM
Does the hex bolt that goes through the center bottom of the airbox into the top of the gearbox do anything beside hold the airbox in place?

I am removing my airbox and wanted to use that hex bolt as a mounting point for a bracket to hold a small aluminum oil catch tank for the crankcase vent. Don't want to fix one problem and cause another.

You are ok. The hex bolt only holds the air box in place, be sure to put some sealant on the threads when you reinstall or you could get small amounts of gear lube sucked into the air box. When you get the air box off there is a small philips head screw that you do not want to touch or you could be spending $$$.

Rain? What's that? Not so much for me but I'd like my grandson to see what the stuff is.

Hot n' dusty, barn door hinges are rusty,

Just to satisfy your curiosity about the small Phillips screw that was mentioned, it holds a sheet metal raceway, or lubricant guide inside the transmission .

If you remove the screw, the part falls into the gears of the transmission and the transmission needs to be disassembled to get it back into place . >:(
