Title: Main stand types
Post by: jamestnewsonr65 on May 07, 2014, 03:20:16 PM
Before I tore down my 81/83 65ls I noticed the main stand was a real pain in the arse to use. Would almost give you a hernia!

Over the years did this get modified and are there anyoptions to make this easier to use. The pic below shows it in use before I set about turning the bike into a pile of metal.

Sorry  for the image size, the iPad mini doesn't do image resizing that we'll.

Oh, how I feel your pain. [smiley=wall.gif] As did I, you have the US Civil War "Mini Ball" centerstand. Argh...

The ground contact points do not appear to be worn too flat but there may be sone stand-to-chassis wear that gives the unit an over-center look.

Yes, the stand design changed late '82 on. Beside having better geometry, the stand has a proper foot pad that doesn't destroy the sole of your boot.

Found the replacement for my '81 'hernia inducer' for cheap on eBay. Simple swap out and so much easier.

Datssa da one!

Confirm it's for an R65 frame. Unsure if other R-models shared same.
