HI,
I'm gettin' ready to rebuild my CV carbs on the '81 R65. A search shows Snobum does not recommend using Bing usa parts, but I've seen others (like Luca and Bob_roller) that advocate FOR using Bing parts.
The all-inclusive rebuild kits and DVD from Bing look promising. Any reason NOT to order what I need from Bing usa? Are the diaphragms really junk?

I think Bing can be more expensive than BMW dealerships/parts suppliers such as Motobins.
The concern (Snobum helped fuel it) was over using pattern diaphragms as opposed to genuine BMW (which are Bing parts, but supplied by BMW for our carbs). Some people have had trouble when they used cheaper, alternative diaphragms. Many, many more, I'm sure, have used them with no problem... but that was a chance I didn't want to deal with.
Not sure why da bum advises against buying parts from Bing USA. If not simply for cost, maybe he thinks that they aren't careful about which diaphragms they sell you.

I can confirm that parts are more expensive from Bing vs the BMW dealer price. And they're not particularly cheap to begin with. :P

I bought every needed overhaul component for my R65's 32mm Bings, including OEM diaphragms, from Motobins and saved some serious money. The parts are lightweight enough that that can fly 'packet rate' on Royal Air Mail for cheap. Took five days for delivery. I usually place my 'bins orders over the weekend and they seem to go out quickly on Mondays.

I bought from bing once and had to return my order after I had mis-diagnosed my problem. Long story. Anyways, I was disappointed to see a 15% restocking fee. Maybe that's standard, but not sure I'd order again from them. The folks there were very nice and knowledgeable.
One plus for Bing is for the early flat top carbs, they will sell you the white nylon o-ring separately that seals in the diaphragm to the slide. I couldn't get this part from a BMW dealer by itself and was told I'd have to order the whole slide assembly as a unit, which wasn't cheap.

There are several helpful web pages that may be of assist during a Bing CV overhaul. This is one that you may find helpful. Other forum members may also have something to contribute.

Thanks all. Haven't perused motobins deeply yet will go there next.
Went thru the parts list at BikeBandit, and they don't list the needle jets nor some of the o-rings. Sans those, I did come up with something like $160 from BB, vs $218 from Bing. I'd hate not to support 'em tho, but that feels like a big difference.
It would be nice to have everything in one all-inclusive kit when I don't know much about these carbs, so I guess I'm still researching this one.
And thanks for the link to the r100 carb rebuild, I'm sure that'll prove to be helpful.
Anyone ever actually watched the Bing How-To DVD from Bing intl? Wondering if any tips therein would be worth the $30? :-?

BMW offers a rebuild kit with all the "soft" parts, $70 for both carbs. Float needles, floats, main jet/needle would all be additional, if needed.
I haven't seen the Bing DVD, but it gets favorable reviews. Honestly, there isn't a lot to these carbs. Take one apart at a time so you have the other one as a reference, clean it thoroughly and put it back together.
Tuning is a whole 'nuther issue, and I'm not sure how much that's covered in the DVD.
Of course, there are a lot of very knowledgable and helpful people right here on this forum! :)

Got all the hard and soft bits I needed (ummm, heh heh) from local-to-me Bombars Beemers. Since he restores a lot of bikes, he had everything 'cept the needle jet on the shelf. Prices were BMW-ish: $70 for the 2-carb soft bits, plus a lot more for the floats, float needles, jet needles, needle jets, atomizer etc. $200 total otd.
I figure, while I'm in there - replace what I can, when I can, and support the local guy if I can.
