Title: LED Headlight Replacement .
Post by: Bob_Roller on March 07, 2014, 10:26:45 AM
Saw this on a Guzzi site, looks like LED's may well replace incandescent bulbs in this application in the not too distant future .

Not so sure this will work in a standard headlight ' bucket ' .

Interesting.

I'd consider springing for a kit sometime this year.
I'd want to know the wavelength of the LEDs though - if it is going to be blue-white or yellow-white.

My R65 (so far) uses a sealed, 7" halogen in the Windjammer, though I noticed my new Jammer uses an H4 assembly.  I would love to put one of those LEDs on my Triumph (25 watts draw, yeah baby!) but I bet they won't work on a positive ground bike.

It's that danged "diode" part of LED.

Another alternative is to spring for a higher quality bulb.  I've put PIAA bulbs in both my cars and motorcycles and have been pleased with the performance:

Below is the spec for the R65:

PIAA H4 Style Xtreme White 12V 60/55=110/100-Watt Bulb - Twin Pack
SKU: PIA-15224

I purchased them from www.autoplicity.com but I know you can find them elsewhere too.

Might the LEDs used with the BMW headlamp fresnel lens cause some light distribution issues? There have been some comments around the www regarding this. But I know nussing, Colonel Hogan.
