Question #2 on the day. In my attempt to make my 83 r65 as awesome as possible, im in love with the peanut style covers I have seen on the 750's and up... will they fit my r65?
-
yes.
I have some on my 81 R100 and had some on my R65 as well. It was a 79 but the heads were post 81.

Not only do they fit but I suspect they may be lighter too.
Steve of the hacksaw would know. Is it true ?
-
They is definitely a left and right side with the peanut valve covers. The center fins should be horizontal or near to it. Get them on the wrong side and the fins run uphill towards the front of the bike.
-
Yes they fit, but they are thinner and let more more valvetrain noise out.
I think there are more than a few sellers out there flogging "peanut" valve covers. The ones I bought for my wife's birthday last year quieten the valve noise considerably.
-
All I know is that they look better in a 'retro' sort of way.
I bought mine from motorworks recently for my 1982 R100.
The ones I got are probably lighter

If the rocker box center stud and nut was the only attach hardware used, then the covers would be "ambidextrous". It's those offset threaded studs on each end of the left n' right covers that will catch you out.

You guys are great. Peanut valve covers have been ordered. Frame is getting coated this weekend... Only a few hundred more things to address and im riding!
