Title: R65 extreme makeover

i've finally made up my mind, i'm putting together the baddest R65 EVER!!!! I took off the ins. panel/headlight bracket and am replacing it with a Trail Tech Vapor computer with the indicator dash @ http://trailtech.net/vapor.html i am replacing my US handlebars with R100S bars. Getting Aztec 8 dual headlights in black @ http://aztec8.com/catalog/c6_p1.html. my only problem is where i can put an accessory plug AND the ignition switch. ideally i want them side by side but where??? i was thinking if i could get that plastic panel with the R65 on it re-enforced and then just drill into it  but i dont think that would work. any suggestions?

This is an easy one!

The accessory outlet can bolt to the left upper shock mount, with a factory bracket.  A little expensive, but seamless install.

The ignition key can go right next to it when you remove the seat lock!  I have heard of this being done, but I have not actually looked at the situation to see what is involved.


I LOVE that digital dash panel!  Finally, something that does everything you need, and made for a bike!  Tempting.

i did put my key switch in the seat latch lock. it needs to be reemed out a little with a file but it doesnt take much to do. most of the wiring is long enough stock except you have to remove the stock covering in order for it to get back there.

How do those liquid crystal displays hold up on those computers ? I installed a temperature indicator with an LCD, and it 'washed out' in temps of about 100 F., and never really came back to it's original intensity afterward.

Which vapor kit did you use for yourR65?  I like that too, and it's not much more than getting my speedometer rebuilt.

I could never find a price!  But it is so nice, I figured even $200 would be reasonable.

So far my GPS is holding up fine, LCD-wise.  Vibration-wise, too!  I just wish I could leave it on the bike when running errands, but I am afraid one of these days it won't be there when I come out from the store.

I don't see the heat and light intensity that you do, either, Bob.

Ed, where can you get your speedo rebuilt for less than $119?? Share, please!

Last time I checked with Palo Alto, they were talking $200+...

I may be spelling this wrong, but overseasspeedo was the company.  I have no experience with them, I just asked for a quote and it was about 110, but since then my speedometer has stopped working.  When I asked, it was just the odometer.
