Also BMWBayer in Germany has both the early R65 and the 2nd gen books:

I have heard people say they can order motorcycle parts (including said books) from BMW auto dealerships parts departments. Might be worth a phone call. You supply them with the 11 digit part number and they order it in for you. Check their price against mail order first, though.

In one of life's little coincidences, I ordered a replacement manual from Capital Cycle and two days later received my original manual in the mail from the friend I sold the bike to for a while. As a point of interest, they aren't the same.
The original is part #01 47 9 798 317 and says "Rider's Manual US Models R65/R65LS". It contains four sections: Warranty, Operation, Service - Maintenance, and Specifications. The replacement is part #01 41 9 798 291 and has three sections: Operation, Service - Maintenance, and Technical Data and covers the R45 as well as the R65. Since the US warranty was probably different and the R45 wasn't sold here, I'm guessing this one is the rest-of-world manual?

There is still another. The one I just received
from the PO shows on the cover:
RIDER'S MANUAL US MODEL r65
Warranty Service Maintenance Technical Data
and on the back cover
Bestell Nr. 01 41 9 798 037
That is all I can read. The pages are all stuck
together and the whole manual is hard as a
rock! Is it possible to unstick em and be
able to read em????
