Title: replacing Metz  ME33 tires
Post by: pierre on August 14, 2007, 11:24:44 AM
i need to replace a set of worn ME33 tires on my '81 R65. I think the logical replacement is the ME88s.

What is everyone else is riding and do you like them.?  pros / cons ???

thanks

What type of riding do you normally do? I've had ME33/ME99 and now the Lasertec series tires since 1987, they are a great tire when dry, they stick like velcro ! But when wet, not so confidence inspiring, I shouldn't be too harsh about wet conditions, as my brakes are lousy in wet conditions, so I really don't get too much of a feel about the tires in these conditions. They also take a few miles to warm up in cold conditions, until then they can be quite 'slick'. I tried one ME88 rear tire to see if I could get a longer life out of it, and still got about 9,000 miles out of it. Metzeler Lasertec tires tend to be higher priced than other brands as well, about $100 US for a front, and $125 US for a rear and about $25 US each for Metzeler inner tubes. My average tire life on the Metzelers is 7-9,0000 for a rear, and 10-13,000 on a front. A lot of members here use Michelin tires, I'm sure they will add their experience's here later today.

We've had a couple discussions on this same topic in the past 8-10 months that should have some useful
information for you.   Try checking out this thread:

Macadams work well.  120/90H18 rear and 100/90H18 front.
