Title: What's this sticker telling me?
Post by: AlfromNH on October 15, 2013, 06:58:26 AM
Just curious, what's this sticker about? It's on the downtube right above the VIN

I think I can decipher the "R65" Part  ;)

Hello,
If I'm not mistaken the round E1 means it is compliant with European regulations and that the country into which it has been approved is number one ... Meaning Germany ...
I bet the number following the E1 label is the approval number...

Yep - seems to be a UN thing now:

Plenty of non European countries on there, but not the US or Canada.

Traveling around, I have seen several large signs -usually on large ranch properties- that say, "Get the US out of the UN". I tend to agree.

I don't think harmonization of regulations is necessarily a bad thing provide it's kept simple and sensible.

If there was any doubt that the European bureaucrats are out of control, evidence was provided recently when they attempted to ban restaurants from serving olive oil in open dishes saying that they must use individual sealed containers.   The olive oil thing was quashed by several nations refusing to comply but how many millions of Euros did they waste with such nonsense. That's the problem with bureaucrats, they can't be trusted to be sensible.

Yes, and US trying to get out of UN is silly too. How come one of the biggest nation on the planet does not want to be part of it ? It is as far as I will go into politics on this forum...
