I have a chance to pick up a pair of 1981 Brembo R100RT calipers.
Would they be a direct bolt on for my 1982 r65ls?

Do you have pictures of it? Just to be certain.
The one with the BMW logo below the Brembo logo is the one that WON'T fit.
My R65 uses a rear caliper from an R100. ;D

I recently went through this exercise in the process of helping out a fellow BMW sufferer here in Cairns. Basically, if it came off an airhead, it will fit any other (non swinging ATE caliper) airhead.
Sadly the lovely (and cheap) sets of K series brembos will not fit. The reason is that throughout the life of the airhead BMW left enough clearance to allow the owner to fit spoke type wheels if they took it into their head to do so.
With the advent of the K series BMW adopted narrower hub spacing and different "offset" for the calipers.
I have looked long and hard at the early K series Brembos, the bolt spacing is correct, it is the offset that is the problem, I briefly considered do the necessary machining but that would have entailed buying a caliper and I lost interest as there are plenty of calipers that will fit still out there in the world and rebuilding one of those is less work.
