Would any of you have a photo or an accurate diagram showing the placement of the two "L" shaped supports that fit under the gas tank? That was one of several things I failed to photograph when I started on the restoration. !983 R65LS Thanks, D2

Not 100% certain but I think the original rubbers were fitted with the long side vertical rather than horizontal.

There is only one possible position.
They are different left and right. So you have to find which one goes on which side.
Then you have to know the thin wall goes vertically between the frame and tank and the thick part serves as a damper for the weight of the tank.
I have trouble gluing the new one I bought to the new paint the tank has got. I have still to find a good glue and process to attach them permanently... Hope you'll be luckier than me ...

Hi George, I used a spray adhesive, (3M Super 77 Multipurpose Adhesive) and I'm not sure how well it will hold. Once the supports were in place it took about 10 minutes of pressing the supports back against the tank before they stayed in place. I then had to really use a lot of downward force to get the tank in place. If this adhesive doesn't hold 3M makes a more permanent spray adhesive which I will try. D2

They will stay in place without adhesive as clipped in under pressure by the by the tank end clip. Just remeber to recover them and repositiuon every time you take the tank off.

Hello !
After attempting to glue them many times, I have had success using some spray glue from 3M given by my car body repair shop.
The can had no label left (and not much glue left in it) but it did the trick.
I guess that all gluing and cleaning had finally cleaned the slippery out of the rubber. So I'll never know for sure if the glue was special or if the parts only needed proper cleaning...

Probably just as important to lightly sand the adhesion point if it was fully painted (as opposed to overspray).
Weatherstipping adhesive would probably do the job nicely. Just don't go overboard, the stuff is plenty strong.
