I have finally gotten my front brake fluid reservoir back together with the "microscopic" hole reamed out and filled with fresh brake fluid, so everything should be fine with that problem. Today I have been trying to attach the throttle cable to the chain mechanism. When I screw down the cover and twist the grip I get a "notchy" feeling, not a smooth turning. The "notchyness" I would guess comes from the meshing of the chain holder and the throttle grip. I'm pretty sure that I have them aligned properly. When I remove the cable and screw down the cover I have a nice smooth turn. So I'm stumped and would welcome any ideas as to what I need to do [smiley=bmw_smiley.gif] Thanks as always, Dave 2

There's a small "dot" on the chain's cam that must be aligned with an all-but-invisible straight line etched into the twist grip tube. Got those correct?

It's those "Microscopic Holes" and "All-but-invisible Lines" that get me. I know that there is supposed to be a "mark" to line align the grip with the throttle chain cam, but then again that hole alluded me because it looked like the indentation that the point of a drill bit would make in a partially drilled hole. I soaked it in paint stripper and used the smallest gauge sewing needle I could find in my girlfriends sewing kit to ream it before it reverted back to being a hole again [smiley=bmw_smiley.gif] On the grip' last evening I lined up the grip so that the end of the channel was just even with the opening where the cover fits into it. it is still a little notch but returns well. I all get out my gazillion power cheaters and see if I can find that line. I am thinking that I will need to readjust the throttle cables at both ends once I have this done? Thanks Monte, Dave2

What are the teeth on the cogs like, mine were worn badly and the throttle was very notchy and had a 'tight' spot. Replacing both halves made a huge improvement on the rideability.
Unfortunalely it is an expensive repair as both parts are genuine BMW.

What Monte said - align the small line on the toothed tube with the mark on the gear wheel, and have the chain placed so it to minimize its slack (but still has a little bit) with the throttle cable(s) in the closed position. Be sure to put some grease on the teeth and the teeth on the tube. I also tend to give a spritz of white lithium grease on the handlbar that the throttle tube rotates upon.

I have had to replace mine in the past due to 'notchiness', Often you can get away with one or other, but with my last bike it was both. You will find the teeth in low to middle portion of the throttle twist grip teeth are worn to a point and there will be slack as well.
