Title: Front brake prob
Post by: erod1 on August 16, 2013, 06:20:46 AM
I have a 86 mono with brembo single disk . I changed and bleed the breaks and installed new ebc pads. Then recently I was going to work and I went to grab my front brake and it came all the way in. So I squeezed its few times and went to work. That night I came home and bleed the brakes again. The lever feels hard as wood. So on the weekend I took the pads out and I noticed the top of the pads are black and wet. So I am assuming a leak. But I cannot see from where. Is there a rebuilt kit fir the brembo or should I just purchase one.

There are O-rings and seals fitted to the Brembo pistons. Their purpose is to keep that nasty brake fluid inside the system. Would appear you have a failed rubber component.

Probably due to the rings and seals drying out while sitting for ten years. :-/

Confirm you have the Brembo F08 caliper prior to ordering parts. If different, grab the proper rebuild kit for your particular needs.

Your BMW dealer can supply pricey rebuild kits or you may try other vendors with more reasonable prices.

Yes, it's a Ducati joint. The Ducs use Brembo brakes, too.

MotoGuzzi here. Still Brembo.

I also have an '86 monoshock and wanted to echo Monte's suggestion: make sure you verify the correct caliper.  I suspect the mono R65 shares calipers not with earlier R65s, but the R80 of the same vintage.
