For what it is worth the crownwheel seal on a pre-1981 final drive is a standard 65*85*10 steel backed seal. At $6 the generation C seal shots the hell out that f the $35 for a genuine part.
Actually nearly all seals and bearings are catalogue parts, there is no need to enrichen BMW and it's dealer network.
