Title: TIRES
Post by: williamemack on June 07, 2013, 08:37:49 AM
I'm in the lakes region of New Hampshire. Love riding the dirt roads on my 1980 R65. Need some new tires  and woukld prefer some with tread good on dirt roads as well as tar. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Will

Welcome back Will

Can't help with the tires but did you every get those forks to work on the dirt roads without the topping out clonk ?

Might want to try a dual sport tire. Someone on this forum mounted some Shinko 244 tires and had good results. Suggested sizes were 3.50-18 front 4.10-18 rear and they are reasonably priced.

I'm down in the nh coast and I search out those dirt roads and small paths with my '83 just back in commission. I had also read about the shinko a and after a long confusing while looking for tires I went with the 244's. they sound like they do a good job and I can't wait to get the dry-rot rear metzeler off. It's scaring me!

They should be in by Thursday and on by friday(!)
3.50-18, 4.10-18
Can't wait(!)

It's just been few days and I have yet to hit the highway but I've been delighted to ride these around. Around town, on the dirt, old train tracks, and in some mud I thought I might not make it out of they have been awesome.

A totally different feel than the old Metz me99.. They lean quicker and turn a bit slower... If that translates at all.

I've been searching for some 'legal' routes  around where I can get back on the trail.. So far these tires have facilitated exactly what I want this bike to be.

Weee!!
