It's driving me crazy, and I can't find its location with either Clymer of Haynes. Can anybody help me out?

I'd remove the fuel tank, then operate the turn directional and see if you can find the 'offending' part .

You'll probably find it within the relay area under the fuel tank. It may have a few louvers in it to allow the annoying noise to escape. Confirm the blinkers still blink after pulling the flasher horn as it might be necessary to replace the honker with a normal turn signal relay.
With the tank off, check to see if you have a fuel tank overflow tube attached to the bit of tubing poking off the left-side bottom. If it's gone missing, add a piece of poly or thin rubber tubing and route it aft and down below the chassis. You may find a free hole near the passenger footpeg that'll accept the tubing and keep it from flopping about.
The o'flow tube prevents excess gasoline from pouring onto a hot engine/exhaust. Fire bad!

Found it. It's a little drum shaped unit underneath the front of the gas tank. There aren't any spade connectors, etc, so I just cleaned the face of it and stuck some gorilla tape on it. Then I put a small piece of denim on top of that and wrapped electrical tape all around. And then I listened. Absolutely nothing. Now I can wait at a traffic light without fearing that I'll invoke road rage (someone thinking that I'm honking at them). ;)

i know the feeling, i did the same, except i just unplugged mine, there was an in-line connector under the tank so just pulled that and haven't looked back, except when i drive 10 miles with my blinker on... ooops

If you really want to disconnect it there is a connector to the wiring harness. You can't miss it, the tails on the buzzer are only 100mm or so long. The connector should be strapped to the wiring harness to the right of the buzzer.
I initially disconnected mine but then realised it's a good safety feature. It's just too loud so I now run it with a neat disc of duct tape over the diaphragm to quieten it down.
It's not just the volume that's too high, the tone is also annoying. If you want to experiment with the tone remove the buzzer from it's rubber surround and there is a small adjusting screw and lock nut.
Besides a reminder to cancel the indicators I find it useful on left turns (your right) where it warns pedestrians not to walk out into the road.
