Title: is it the voltage regulator or the altinator?
Post by: mikeyd3 on May 05, 2013, 07:44:35 PM
So my 86' R80 died on an important ride to pick up a special lady friend. I never felt so bad letting another man load her onto his rollback. I just wouldnt leave the bike alone.
So how to troubleshoot....any advice or pitfalls to lookout for?

Start with the basics - fuel, spark & compression.

What are your mechanic skills?  Tools?  Place to work?

How did it fail, just quit with no warning, or did you lose power from the engine before it quit ?

+1 above, and do you own a multimeter and know how to use it?

Does the battery crank the engine? Are you seeing a spark at the plugs? Did the GEN light ignite?

We could use some additional info to assist you with trouble shooting. Additional details, please.
