I can't seem to find this again, but remember reading it. Is it the R80? I saw someone use on of the R100 tanks, but seemed to have to relocate the electrics.
Just curious, thinking of getting a second used tank while I work on my original to refresh the paint, etc.
Thanks.

The R80ST tank will fit the R65, but they (like the bikes themselves) are fairly rare and it would be a shame to abscond with one. Quite a few tanks regularly pop up on Ebay, which might be your best source. You can also check IBMWR.com, http://marketplace.ibmwr.org/ , although not sure of the condition or volume of tanks you might find there.
I'd still think Ebay is your best shot, at any given time you can find a half dozen or more for sale there.

If you happen to get a fuel tank that has rust inside, it's not difficult to get the rust removed and apply a new liner to the interior of the tank .

We went through this topic with a friend a few months ago... we replaced a R65LS tank with a R80ST with no problems...
According to this thread, most every airhead tank is interchangeable, but we didin“t confirm it with more bikes... hope it helps!!

most every airhead tank is interchangeable
WITH modifications to the rear mount.
The only other fuel tanks that will fit with no modification to the mounts are the G/S series. I don't know about the later GS series, but the earlier ones were the basis for the ST, so...
And with that knowledge, you might be able to fit a Paris Dakar tank.
The big drawback to those tanks (and others?) is that the R65 tank is longer than the others, so when another tank is used, there is a significant gap between the rear of the tank and the front of the seat.

So, the R80 tank and the GS tank both will fit without mods. Are both of them a couple of inches shorter as well?
Just trying to broaden my search on ebay. Would love to pay less than $200 with shipping, but that might be a pipe dream. Going to work on my patience for now.
Thanks
