Post by: Tony_Pattison on July 20, 2007, 12:45:41 PM
anybody know if standard 38mm silencers for an R80/100 would fit my 1982 twin-shock R65?

thanks

Tony

I think the length is wrong(R65 -30" - R100 34") and the mount points (R65 -10.5" - R100 - 11.5")  but the main problem is R65's are only 35mm

Tis a big gap to fill.

I think that you could make or purchase reducer sleeves but even then you would need to rig the mounts and it would look kind of strange with the extra length...

There was some cheap ones on eBay, but I don't think I'll bother bidding.

Yes they fit right away, once done with the 35-38 mm issue.
They are too long, (no problem) and they go wide to the rear, due to the smaller header distance. ???!!!
The ends have a distance as wide as the cylinders!

Stepping off the bike, when wearing shorts, you can easily burn your calves.

BUT the performance is okay! (I have items fron a 70/6)

You can make them fit no problem, but the do make the bike look a bit odd and as someone pointed out the width at the back makes it very easy for a passenger to burn their leg getting off the bike.
