Just installed my new, to me, Koni 6810-1427 shocks (the correct model for our bikes) on my trusty 83 R65.  Adjustable damping allows the preload to be lower while control is maintained.  My stock shocks were cranked all the way up and I'm running these in the lowest position to start, with the damping set at position 3, out of 4.  

Initial impressions- very solid feel, nice ride, rear wheel does not bounce over bumps.  I plan on using them before rebuilding. Don't fix something that isn't broken, right?

Where did you get them?

Are they still made or do I have to find a used set?

I visited the Koni site but there is no option for motorcycles shocks.

KONI sold the manufacturing rights of their motorcycle shock absorbers, I believe they are now made in Australia, they are currently named IKON, KONI spelled backwards .

A bit costly compared to other brand shock absorbers, but they can be rebuilt .

Unless they are physically damaged, they should last the life of the bike .

I've had a set on my '81 R65 since June, 1994, about 60,000 miles on them now .

Agree with Bob.  New Ikons are a relative bargain compared to Works shocks.  Konis are fully rebuildable.  Here's the procedure:

I've got a set on my '82 LS, don't have many miles on them yet, but they were a great improvement over the  30 year old OEM BOGE shocks .

I don't know if these are rebuildable or not .
